Chris & Crystal’s Summer-Storm E-Session

What is it about engagment shoots that always courts summer storms? We barely made it through this session when the sky just erupted in lightning, thunder, rain and wind. Beautiful light for great sky shots, but we were still happy to be driving home in warm and dry vehicles.

Paul & Naomi’s E-session in E-town

We met Paul and Naomi when we were shooting Victor and Michal’s beautiful Lily Lake, AB, wedding. It was a stunning day filled with amazing people, and we were over-the-top excited when we were asked to shoot Paul and Naomi’s big day too!

With just weeks until their wedding day, we headed out to shoot some engagment portraits to show off at their reception. And, can we just say, we love, love, love the pics they rocked in Edmonton’s river valley?! Beautiful.

We hope you can feel the love – and the heat – radiating off these two, and make sure to check back in a few weeks to see their wedding pics!

1940s Portrait Sessions – Pin-Up, Glamour & Fun

Inspiration can come in many forms for us. It could be other photographers, a great movie, an awesome dinner, an exotic trip, or in this case, some awesome friends. After we created a scene that had been floating in Rachel’s head for a while, all the ladies who offered their time for the shoot received a mini-portrait session to showcase their individuality as a thanks from us. And, today we’ve included those sessions below!

We hit up the Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, CN Railway Station for its timeless stage, and we think it worked out perfectly! We introduced the girls and their characters in the post Getting Inspired by a Decade – The 1940s, so, if you missed out on that post, go check it out now!

Getting Inspired by a Decade – The 1940s

Sometimes as a photographer, your need to be a creative being takes a backseat to the needs of your company – edits, bills, deadlines, taxes, etc. find a way to take over. Because of this, we try to get out and play as much as possible. This year we’ve managed a few shoots just for us. This is one of them.

Our friends were wonderful enough to come out to our Facebook casting call, and to style themselves in 1940s attire. Hats were borrowed from coworkers and grandmothers, luggage from moms and family friends, and everything else was scavenged from closets and second-hand stores.

Lyle and Amanda, Making “I do!” Look Good!

Lyle and Amanda are the kind of people you want to surround yourself with. When we first shot their engagements in 2008, we instantly saw that these two love and laugh equally freely. And, this love and laughter was definitely flowing on their wedding day!

The girls started the morning off at Avanti Hair Salon, and then we headed over to the couple’s condo for some laid-back fun playing video games as we waited for the clock to tick. The boys, meanwhile, started out at Lyle’s parent’s farm, just outside Edmonton, and narrowly avoided Edmonton’s infamous summer construction blockades to get to the church on time.

Our first stop was the Royal Alberta Museum, where we did some quick family photos, but also where we slowed it down for some classic and stunning formals. Wrapping up the photos, and wrangling the party, we all trekked down to Whyte Avenue to invade Obyrne’s Irish Pub – where the pub workers were kind enough to give us the entire top floor for photos and fun!

Last, but not least, we made our way to the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex for the reception – Ukrainian welcomes of vodka shots, fresh bread and salt included! There, the bridal party polka’d the night away with a live band, and as the 300 guests clamored around this couple to give their well-wishes, we saw that Lyle and Amanda were indeed people that everyone loved back just as freely.
